Strong Ten: OMGWTF

Dude, 120 DaVincis. ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY?! Patrick says we should be going to failure on every exercise. Not terribly difficult when I am supposed to do SIX sets of TWENTY DaVincis. Yeah, non-trivial to say the least. Never mind the endless lunges, pistol squats, and floor jumps before that. So apparently this week is: fewer exercises, more reps, more sets. Drilling in on certain muscles groups, going to failure, and building building building muscle. Fun stuff.
Strong 9 results photo is up now -- doesn't look nearly as good as the previous one, mainly due to lighting. For the first time I went to Patrick's in the morning and we worked out in the sunlight (even did the jumps out on the balcony -- nice!) When it came time to take the photo, instead of getting that nice body-builder-friendly harsh direct-from-above lighting that casts thick shadows and carves out every muscle, we had generically bland partially-cloudy sunlight.
So this week's lesson: always have strong lighting from above, if possible in a dark room!
Middle of Golden Week -- off of work until Thursday so get to eat meals with my family, go out and about, and really test my ability stay strong and mindful. I usually carry a bag of snacks; grapes, bananas, hard-boiled eggs, etc. so that I don't get tempted when we take a break to feed the kids. Also now that my daughter has watched me PCP for weeks, she always steals my grapes and egg-whites, so I carry double in case she pilfers mine!
Yesterday we checked out the Hokkaido Festival at Mitsukoshi; wife and kids got massively delicious-looking sushi and I grabbed some heinously large asparagus. Had some of wife's left-over crab for breakfast this morning. Also bought a bunch of hanpen (like kamaboko or oden; processed white-fish cakes basically) for my protein ration next few days.
Today Grandma and Grandpa are coming over, so we'll go to the kids bookstore/restaurant Crayon House for a viking lunch (all organic veggies and super-healthy, so no problems eating well there) and then do some shopping in Omotesando whilst wife gets a haircut. I want to check out jeans at The Gap -- haven't bought jeans in 15 years, and the pair I have now is, needless to say, a bit large. One of my PCP graduation gifts to myself is a new pair of jeans, so today I am just curious to see what size I am...and what size I will be a month from now!

  1. Great, I'm going to get a few emails asking me about what a "viking lunch" is and if it's a mandatory part of the project. Care to clarify? (V-B etc...)

  2. The DaVinci's killed today. Failure was no problem.

  3. Ah good point! "Viking" is one of those English-but-not Japanese loan words. The proper equivalent is all-you-can-eat buffet...which for some reason in Japanese is calling "Viking".
